5 Tips to Avoid Cyberattacks
Exercise caution and care in your online activities to protect yourself from cyberattacks.
- 1. Be extra cautious with unsolicited phone calls and text messages, emails from unknown senders, and unexpected pop-ups. Don’t let a message’s sense of urgency cause you to react without thinking.
- 2. Take a moment to carefully check links before you click. If unsure, type in a web address you know is safe to verify the information.
- 3. Keep anti-spam and anti-malware software updated and your devices fully patched.
- 4. Beware of new or unestablished websites masquerading as news, aid groups or other seemingly relevant content. Rely on trusted websites and organizations for information and work with reputable charitable organizations when making donations.
- 5. Remain vigilant and avoid clicking unknown links or opening attachments. In doubt, throw it out!
